Aussie movie star Chris Hemsworth looks fitter than ever in an intense new workout video he shared to Instagram overnight.
The 41-year-old actor posted videos of his backyard training regimen, a high-intensity kickboxing workout, which he dubbed “a little Avengers pre-game warm up.”
Hemsworth is about to reprise his role as Thor in the next Avengers movie, titled Doomsday, which began filming in recent days.
Set for release in May next year, this next Avengers film will be the fifth instalment in the series, following 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Hemsworth leads a cast that will include Paul Rudd, Pedro Pascal, Sebastian Stan and Vanessa Kirby in an all-star line-up, as the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and “original” X-Men team up to face Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
While he regularly keeps fans updated on his workout regime, Hemsworth has said in the past that there’s a downside to being so jacked.
In a 2021 interview with the UK’s Telegraph, he said he’d be taken more seriously as an actor if he wasn’t such a keen bodybuilder.
“There is an aesthetic that the role requires. Bodybuilding is seen as vanity, whereas if I gained a lot of weight that would harm my health or become skinny for a role, it would probably be called a serious actor,” he told the outlet.
In the same interview, Hemsworth confessed he’d previously “overtrained” his body in a quest for perfection.
“For years I probably overtrained. People who do muscle-building often don’t realise it’s a sport that shouldn’t be seven days a week, two hours a day. I was doing that in the previous Thors and was coming up sorer, with less energy,” he said.
Hemsworth’s longtime personal trainer and childhood friend Luke Zocchi, previously gave some insight into the actor’s gruelling pre-Thor training regimen.
He told Page Six in 2021 that it all comes down to “consistency, hard work and also eating the right foods”.
One of the Avengers star’s main challenges when it comes to bulking up is consuming enough to fuel his body.
“When we go into prep for movies like Thor, it’s a massive increase in food,” Zocchi said. “He eats, like, six to eight meals a day.”
