Triple M has axed its Drive show, The Rush Hour, hosted by Leisel Jones, Liam Flanagan, and Ben “Dobbo” Dobbin.
The radio trio, who’ve become household names for Brisbane commuters, will be replaced by the nationally syndicated Marty Sheargold Show from January 2025.
The decision, announced on Friday by Triple M’s parent company, SCA, comes despite the show’s strong performance, holding a solid 10.1 per cent market share and securing third place in the October 1 radio survey for the Drive-time slot.
In an emotional Instagram post, Jones acknowledged the end of an era, saying, “Well, it was fun while it lasted. Sad news today that @triplem_rushhour with Leisel, Liam, and Dobbo won’t go ahead in 2025. Our intention with this show was to always lift your drive home, no matter what kind of day you’ve had. I hope we were able to bring a smile or laugh to your arvo. Until next time!”
From January, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, other Queensland regions, and New South Wales listeners will hear Sheargold’s show from 4-6 p.m., part of SCA’s plan to expand its network offerings across key states.
As for Triple M’s southern states, Melbourne’s Rush Hour hosts James “JB” Brayshaw and Billy Brownless will extend their sports banter and humour to South and Western Australia.
Sheargold expressed his respect for the outgoing Brisbane team and others being replaced, saying, “I also wanted to thank the teams from the Sydney, Brisbane/Gold Coast and Queensland Rush Hour shows who have all had amazing stints and been hugely entertaining.” “I’m committed to carrying on their legacies.”
SCA Chief Content Officer Dave Cameron also shared his appreciation for the departing Brisbane trio, stating, “Leisel Jones, Ben Dobbin and Liam Flanagan have been outstanding broadcasters as part of the Triple M family, and we thank them for their incredible contributions. We look forward to making more exciting announcements for Triple M very soon.”
