Brisbane breakfast radio host Kip Wightman has revealed that he is expecting a baby with his partner Nyomie Essa.
Wightiman broke the news on air as he and co-host Robin Bailey underwent lie-detector tests.
He disclosed the news while his partner was on the phone to the studio.
The segment, which involved a lie-detector test focusing on eye movement technology, initially probed Wightman on his thoughts about having more children.
He is a father to four-year-old Rafael, from his previous marriage to Amber Preiska.
The polygraph results indicated Wightman was pensive, leading to speculation among listeners and Bailey about his hesitation.
However, the true reason behind Wightman’s nerves was far more joyous.
“The reason that there was a high cognitive load is because Nyomie is pregnant,” Wightman revealed, prompting elation in the studio.
“This is the best thing ever!” Bailey exclaimed.
Wightman expressed his excitement and commended Essa for keeping the news under wraps.
The couple began dating in late 2021, with Wightman previously describing Essa as an “absolute Godsend” and detailing their blossoming relationship from mutual friends to partners.
This announcement comes after Wightman’s significant personal and career changes over the past few years.
In 2021, his four-year marriage with Preiska ended with a high-profile split.
The separation was a turning point for Wightman, leading him to re-evaluate his personal and professional life.
After a remarkable 15-year tenure with Nova’s popular breakfast show, Ash, Kip, Luttsy & Susie, he made an unexpected departure in October 2021.
Three months later, he joined KIIS 97.3’s breakfast radio team, Robin Bailey and Terry Hansen, on the newly branded ‘Robin, Kip and Terry show’ in January 2022.
Hansen left the show in October 2023, which has since been renamed the ‘Robin and Kip in the morning’.
The baby news resonated with the show’s audience, with fans pouring in messages of congratulations and sharing their emotional responses to the on-air announcement.
“OMG I love this so much!!! I heard it live and I cried and I cried watching that!!! Amazing news! Congrats to Kip and Nyomie!” one fan wrote.
