Christopher Wayne is so excited the Brisbane Comedy Festival is back he is putting his clothes on for it. Wayne is part of the comedy duo The Naked Magicians and has performed all over the world in his birthday suit.
But Wayne says he will be donning pants and going solo for one night only at the Brisbane Comedy Festival which is on at Brisbane Powerhouse, The Fortitude Music Hall and The Tivoli from April 29 to May 29 with tickets on sale Thursday.
Wayne started out at the Brisbane Comedy festival in 2014 but has never performed solo at the festival.
“And now I will, fully clothed, for one night only,” Wayne says. “I’ll be doing the stuff I don’t get to do in The Naked Magicians. All of my magic involves interaction with audiences balancing comedy and stage magic. Watching Netflix at home there’s no chance someone will pick on you.
“This time there will be no masks, no people locked out. It’s been a rough ride but this will be a chance to let off steam.”
The diverse cast includes local talent such as Ting Lim whose show is called Every Ting or No Ting and Sandeep Totlani who traverses his new-found Australian-Indian life in Brown Privilege.
Wil Anderson and Dave Hughes are among the talented comics on the program and after a sell out Sydney season Schapelle, Schapelle - The Musical about Schapelle Corby’s life and times comes to Brisbane Powerhouse from May 24.
Brisbane Comedy Festival director Phoebe Meredith says she is excited to welcome “an array of the world’s funniest folk back to Brisbane”.
“After a two-year Covid induced hiatus we are thrilled to kick off the comedy comeback,” she says. “Brisbane audiences are always up for a laugh.” And they have never needed one more.
