IT WAS mocked mercilessly around the world but Vogue’s decision to feature Kimye on the cover of their April issue has proven to be a masterstroke.

The controversial edition starring the loved-up Kim Kardashian and Kanye West is set to be the magazine’s best-selling of all time.

Well, aren’t Kimye having the last laugh!

“The projections are that Kim and Kanye will likely sell almost 500,000 copies,” a magazine insider told Radar Online.

Previously the best-selling issues were with Beyonce on the cover (355,000) and Michelle Obama (293,000).

There was a huge backlash when Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, announced that Kimye would be gracing the cover with thousands of people voicing their disapproval on Twitter.

But not even Sarah Michelle Gellar’s threat to cancel her magazine subscription was enough to sway Wintour (it appears Vogue has a policy never to negotiate with has-beens).

The decision to put the rapper/reality star combo on the cover was actually made by Vogue’s creative director Grace Coddington who was interviewed recently in the Financial Times

“There was a wedding story to be done, and Anna probably had them in mind, because she had been seeing a lot of Kanye, so she said, ‘Maybe we should shoot it on lookalikes,’” Coddington said.

“And I thought, ‘Why not just do it on the real thing? This is Vogue.’ And I do think Kim Kardashian represents this moment in our culture. I’m fascinated by her, in the same way I’m fascinated by the people I see on the street or the subway.”

Coddington said the shoot went smoothly and without any tantrums from either of the babies (Kanye and North).

“[Kim] is very professional,” Coddington said.

“And [North] is very well-behaved. We did millions of pictures and she did not cry once. I got quite upset we did not have the baby on the cover. I knew going in it would be controversial — I got an envelope from Texas, with the cover ripped up into little pieces inside — but the designers all sent me flowers, so I guess they were happy.”
