Love is in the air for a Brisbane theatre group, after legendary Australian vocalist John Paul Young gave the cast and crew of Strictly Ballroom The Musical an iconic shout out ahead of their opening night.
Strictly Ballroom by the Beenleigh Theatre Group (BTG) opens on Friday and as the cast was preparing to showcase their handwork to the community the iconic pop singer, famed for the show’s hit song Love is in the Air, has added to the excitement by sending through a video message.
Although he was unable to attend the show in person, Mr Young, 74, said he would like to give the theatre group a “big shout out” to the performers and crew.
“They’re putting on Strictly Ballroom this November and December. And if you haven’t got your tickets yet you better hurry up and get ‘em otherwise you might miss out on a bit of Love is in the Air,” Mr Young said.
Director Daniel Dosek said he was thrilled to bring Strictly Ballroom The Musical to the BTG stage.
“It’s a story of passion, courage, and the power of dance, and we can’t wait to share it with our community,” Mr Dosek said.
“The cast and crew have poured their hearts into this production, and it’s been incredible to watch the energy and creativity come to life. This show is a celebration of individuality and love, and I think audiences will be swept away by the magic.
“We’re also incredibly grateful to John Paul Young for taking the time to record a special message for our cast and crew. His support is a huge honour and a real boost of excitement as we head into opening night on Friday.
“We’d also love to see Sonia Kruger, who once graced the BTG stage, come along and return to her theatrical roots. It would be such a thrill to share this moment with her. She hasn’t bought a ticket yet but you never know.”
The show runs from November 22 to December 7 at The Crete Street Theatre, Beenleigh.
Tickets are $35 and $30 concessions.
