Aussie city gloats over Kyle’s dummy spit

After Kyle Sandilands’ wild on-air rant at the few who have bothered to tune into his show in Melbourne, the city has hit back.

Kyle Sandilands has angered the entire population of Melbourne after he blamed the city for his show’s disappointing ratings in a wild on-air rant.

The Kyle & Jackie O Show is currently languishing in seventh place in the rankings with a 5.2 audience share, dropping from 6.1 in the previous survey, and Sandilands is clearly used to being the top dog.

“I blame everyone in Melbourne,” ranted the presenter, known for his on-air outbursts. “It is your fault, you are late to the party, you are pearl clutchers, you all love the shit show that used to be on here that we a***holed, after years of shit — a***holed them over to Nova.

“They got one month of number one and now they are starting to go back down the gurgler again, but everyone keeps (a long censoring beep) … over it.

“If you want to listen to s**t, listen to s**t, that is fine by me.

“At the end of the day he is a ranga from Brisbane, he is not even a Melbourne guy, so who is the joke on? Pests.”

Following Sandilands’ outburst, listeners in Melbourne took to Reddit to slam his remarks and urge him to look inward rather than blame others.

“I do love that he thinks it’s the naughty words causing people to turn off, and not the detestable and unrelatable personalities,” commented one listener on Reddit.

“Hope they go crawl back under their Sydney rock and leave Melbourne alone,” wrote another.

A third remarked: “His egocentric brain can’t comprehend that he and his show are the problem.”

“Have they considered that it might be Kyle Sandilands being the problem,” wrote another. “I know I wouldn’t even tune I just because of him.”

The angry remarks come after it was reported over the weekend that ARN, owners of KIIS FM are setting out to “clean up” the heavy sexual content of the Kyle and Jackie O Show, believing that is what is behind the reason for Melbourne listeners switching off.

“Kyle has now pulled back on that quite considerably. They have stopped the graphic sexual content,” ARN chief content officer Duncan Campbell told Mediaweek.

“The show is about relationships, so it is not going to be a sanitised show. After changing the graphic sexual content it will take time to change the perception. It’s a long game. We are in the trenches. We have a lot of ground to make up.”

While Melbourne doesn’t appear to be going as bosses had hoped for the show, Sandilands, who recently inked a 10-year deal with his co-host worth a combined $200 million, can take some solace in knowing his show remains at the top of the pack in Sydney.
