A minor detail in Reese Witherspoon’s Instagram post has sparked a heated debate.

A-lister Reese Witherspoon has shared a sweet photo of her and her lookalike daughter Ava Phillippe, but online sleuths were quick to argue over a minor detail.

Witherspoon, 47, decided to take her daughter Ava, 24, as her date to the Critics’ Choice Awards and the two stunned in black cocktail dresses.

The movie star posted a photo of them together on Instagram, and Witherspoon looked ageless in a chic Celine gown. Meanwhile Ava opted for a Monique Lhuillier number, and both looked gorgeous.

“Mother-daughter date night,” Witherspoon captioned the photo.

The comment section was filled with fans commenting on how the two blondes looked exactly alike, with some claimed they looked more like sisters than mother and daughter.

One said they looked like “twins” another said their brain couldn’t “process” the picture, refusing to believe they were mother and daughter.

“Like mother like daughter,” one mused.

“The daughter looks more like her mother than her mother does,” another joked.

“Breathtaking,” someone praised.

Yet among the glowing compliments were a few people claiming that the sweet family snap was a prime example of a Photoshop fail.

In the photo, you can see that Witherspoon’s right underarm slightly spilling out over her skin-tight black dress, yet the same isn’t happening on underneath her left underarm.

“Too much Photoshop under your left arm,” one claimed.

Another fan replied and said the photo was too ‘filtered” and was taking away from Witherspoon’s natural beauty.

“Normalise being normal. She is also filtered like crazy. She’s such a beautiful person. She doesn’t need to do all this,” the commenter wrote.

Someone else weighed in and claimed they were a professional retoucher and they didn’t think the photo had been altered.

“Her dress is tight. If it was photoshopped, the overhang of her armpit would be the first thing I would have smoothed out. They are both beautiful,” she argued.

While someone else said it was an “obvious” Photoshop but added they didn’t think it was needed for the Witherspoon to look great.

The argument didn’t end there. Another person commented and asked if the photo had been edited because of Witherspoon’s underarms.

Someone said it was simply because Witherspoon was wearing a tight bodice and, therefore, the skin moves, which might create the allusion of it being altered, but another argued that the line on the wall behind Weatherspoon wasn’t straight, which proves it was altered.
