Former Nine News political reporter Shane Doherty will step into 4BC’s summer line-up, covering the Drive slot while the station’s regular hosts take a seasonal break.
In an internal email seen by The Courier-Mail, 4BC content manager Siobhain McDonnell this week announced the summer line-up changes, detailing the fresh talent that will be on-air from December to mid-January.
Doherty, a familiar voice on 4BC and recently a senior figure in the Palaszczuk Government, will take over Drive, temporarily replacing Gary Hardgrave.
Veteran presenter Dean Miller, known for his work on Creek to Coast and Queensland Weekender, will lead the summer Breakfast show, filling in for Peter Fegan, who had been covering the slot since the departure of longtime hosts Laurel Edwards, Gary Clare and Mark Hine.
This shake-up ends weeks of speculation about the summer Breakfast host, with fans initially expecting 4BC regular Luke Bradnam to fill the role.
However, sources told The Courier-Mail that Bradnam was primarily a fill-in for the former trio’s show, not the breakfast slot itself, making him an unlikely pick for Fegan’s temporary replacement.
Rounding out the summer line-up is Jason Matthews, who will host Wide World of Sports (WWOS).
Currently the executive producer of 4BC Drive and former host of Sportzone, Matthews returns to the microphone in what McDonnell described as “a fresh mix of local talent for 4BC listeners.”
The summer schedule will run from December 23 through January 17, featuring a combination of local voices and networked programming from 2GB for the morning and afternoon slots. McDonnell highlighted that this reimagined line-up follows “a big year for 4BC,” marked by significant changes, including the departure of Edwards, Clare, and Hine in September, along with the resignation of Drive host Peter Gleeson.
