It took just 46 seconds for Toowoomba’s Lachlan Jones to accept his offer for a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the University of the Sunshine Coast yesterday, a pathway into studying his dream course – medicine.

“I like helping people and I think being a doctor is a good way to help people, if I’m able to become one I should help people who aren’t as lucky as me,” he said.

I was nervous but saw it was time and checked the website and it was there, so didn’t hesitate.

Studying a Bachelor of Advanced Humanities majoring in the controversial western civilisation major, she said studying later in life was “good for the brain”.

“I’ve read widely in the area but never really done disciplined study in it – the actual subjects, the units being studied have fascinated me for a long time,” she said.

“When people retire unless they’ve got interesting things to do, unless they connect, they lose track with themselves and what life really is.”

QTAC CEO Dr John Griffiths urged Queenslanders who had not received an offer not to panic, with the next offer round on January 24.

“You also have the option of changing your preferences to a course that can provide you with a stepping stone into your dream course.”
