Queensland students receive most offers in business and engineering degrees

THE top two courses for Queensland school leavers were offered by QUT this year with engineering and business emerging as the most in-demand degrees.
The most offers made to Queensland school leavers since finishing school last year was for Queensland University of Technology’s Bachelor of Engineering followed by their Bachelor of Business.

Its rival, the prestigious University of Queensland, came in third with a Bachelor of Arts followed by their Bachelor of Engineering degree.
The most OP 1 students were offered places at UQ (331), followed by QUT (67), Griffith (62) and USC (12).
The top three courses for those students was Griffith University’s Bachelor of Medical science, followed by UQ’s provisional entry for school leavers and their Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics.
It took just 46 seconds for Toowoomba’s Lachlan Jones to accept his offer for a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the University of the Sunshine Coast yesterday, a pathway into studying his dream course – medicine.
“I like helping people and I think being a doctor is a good way to help people, if I’m able to become one I should help people who aren’t as lucky as me,” he said.
I was nervous but saw it was time and checked the website and it was there, so didn’t hesitate.
While Dr Ros Macdonald is returning to university 33 years after first graduating from UQ with a law degree.
Studying a Bachelor of Advanced Humanities majoring in the controversial western civilisation major, she said studying later in life was “good for the brain”.
“I’ve read widely in the area but never really done disciplined study in it – the actual subjects, the units being studied have fascinated me for a long time,” she said.
“When people retire unless they’ve got interesting things to do, unless they connect, they lose track with themselves and what life really is.”
QTAC CEO Dr John Griffiths urged Queenslanders who had not received an offer not to panic, with the next offer round on January 24.
“You also have the option of changing your preferences to a course that can provide you with a stepping stone into your dream course.”
