Students rush to buy dresses for school formals
Queensland senior students are rushing to buy dresses as their treasured school formals are rescheduled after the COVID-19 crisis.

QUEENSLAND senior students have been rushing to buy dresses as their treasured school formals are back on for the year, even though dancing at the event is still banned because of COVID-19.
Year 12 students have been dashing to book hair and make-up appointments as sessions book-out quickly with the state’s schools rescheduling school formals and graduations.
Prince of Peace Lutheran College year 12 student Katie Steele said her formal was postponed to either two dates, in August or September, so she has had to book multiple hair appointments.
“It’s one of those things that is a Year 12 ritual, it was disappointing that it might not have been happening, but we’re really excited it is now.”
Price Attack’s communications manager Karyn Kelly said girls have been booking multiple Thursday or Friday appointments trying to pre-empt what their new formal date could be.
“To ensure social distancing many salons will still be only able to service half the clients they would ordinarily have in the salon,” she said.
Sentani Boutique Creative Director and Trish Moschella said business had boomed after the State Government gave formals the green light.
“We had definitely noticed the rush during school holidays and once the word was out that school formals are going ahead,” Ms Olsen said.
North Lakes State College Year 12 student Sarah Jaffrey and Albany State High School Year 12 student Ella Morsch both said their respective cohorts were excited that formals could go ahead.
“We’re definitely all very excited for it, as long as it happens,” Miss Jaffrey said.
“I’m excited because it’s such a big event and having the photos for the rest of your life that you can look back on,” Miss Morsch said.
