These are the Brisbane south schools that have improved their NAPLAN results the most in the past five years.

An analysis of five years’ worth of NAPLAN results has revealed the schools that have improved their Year 5 and Year 9 student scores the most.

The Brisbane south school that improved its Year 5 results the most between 2015 and 2019 was Seville Road State School, in Holland Park, where the average results across all subjects improved by 20.3 per cent.

Seville Road State School principal Karen Kuskey said: “Our teachers are given time for high quality teaching along with an intervention and extension program across the school as a way to support all of our students”.

“We have also consolidated our information communication technology plan to teach students the typing and computer skills important to modern learning,” she said.

Average Year 9 results at Aboriginal & Islander Independent Community School, in Acacia Ridge, increased by 7.4 per cent, the biggest improvement in Brisbane’s south.

The analysis compared each school’s combined results for each NAPLAN subject in 2015 and compared to the same results in 2019.

Brisbane South’s second biggest improvement in Year 5 results over those five years was St James Primary School, in Coorparoo, where scores increased 11.8 per cent.

The third biggest Year 5 improver was Our Lady of Fatima Primary School, in Acacia Ridge, where results increased 9.9 per cent over the five-year period.

Our Lady of Fatima Primary School principal Damian Gambley said he was proud of the work of teachers and students to achieve these results.

“We have a strong belief that all our students are capable of achieving high results,” he said.

“In the past few years our community has focused on making that possible through using the latest effective teaching and learning practices.

“These results in a small way capture the hard work the students, staff and wider community have put in.”

The Brisbane south school with the second biggest Year 9 improvement between 2015 and 2019 was Brisbane School of Distance Education, in Coorparoo, where results improved 3.5 per cent.

Average results at Islamic College of Brisbane, in Karawatha, increased 3.4 per cent, the third highest increase in Brisbane South.
