One of the most expensive schools on the Mornington Peninsula has blitzed its NAPLAN results, topping the region and scoring in the top 60 for the state.

Toorak College in Mount Eliza had the highest scores for both primary and secondary education – beating out 45 primary schools and 13 secondary schools in the region to take out the top spot.

The college, which offers coeducational preschool to grade four and all girls from year five to year 12, scored an average of 570.2 in their primary result and 635 in their secondary result.

The college’s principal Kristy Kendall, who has led the school for 10 years, said the result feels like “all of the pieces have come together”.

“We really proudly advocate at the school that every year level is as important as the next,” she said.

“The result validates the emphasis we have on great teaching and learning.

“We’ve got a whole school approach to teaching and learning … our teachers are experts, they craft lessons and experiences intentionally for students to learn.”

Peninsula Grammar ranked second for primary scores and third for secondary scores, missing the second spot by point two to Woodleigh School in Langwarrin South.

Government primary schools fared better than their private counterparts – with 10 public primary schools ranked in the top 15 for average NAPLAN in the region, compared to three private and two catholic schools.

Dromana Secondary College was the highest ranked public high school, performing seventh best overall in the region with an average score of 574.8.

Schools in Hastings were the lowest ranked schools in the area with Hastings Primary School and Western Port Secondary College scoring below other schools in the area.

To determine how each school performed in 2025, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort – Year 5 or Year 9 – were combined and the average found. Students are tested on their reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy skills.
