Revealed: Mackay and Whitsunday’s top schools in 2025 NAPLAN results

One school has dominated the latest NAPLAN results, claiming top spots in both primary and secondary categories across the Mackay and Whitsunday region.

An independent analysis of the 2025 NAPLAN results has revealed the Mackay and Whitsunday schools that performed best in the Year 5 and Year 9 tests, with Whitsunday Anglican School taking out the top spot.

Whitsunday Anglican School in Beaconsfield had the best primary and secondary results of any school in Mackay and Whitsunday, scoring an average of 550.6 for its primary students and 634.4 for its secondary students.

St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School in Mackay scored second best for primary schools in the region with an average score of 518.6, while St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Mackay South came in third with an average score of 488.4.

The second highest performing high school was Holy Spirit College in Mount Pleasant with an average score of 576.8 and Whitsunday Christian College in Cannonvale was third best with an average score of 566.2.

To determine how each school performed in 2025, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Yr 5 or Yr 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
