Grammar school’s reports reveal staggering incomes for top job
Eight grammar school annual reports show some of the top-performing elite school principals are earning staggering pay packages worth more than $500,000.

SOME of Queensland’s most elite school’s principals are taking home more than half a million dollars for the top job at the highly competitive institutions.
Eight grammar school reports were tabled in parliament which reveal the heads of top-performing Brisbane Girls Grammar School, Brisbane Grammar School, Ipswich Grammar School and Toowoomba Grammar Schools all took home a package of more than $500,000 last year, with other schools around the state not far behind.

Brisbane Girls Grammar School principal Jacinda Euler’s total remuneration package was $509,326 in 2018 and increased to $539,283 in 2019.
The top elite girls school had 52.36 per cent of its students achieve an OP 1 to 5 last year.
“In 2019, the school was also ranked number one in NAPLAN for the fifth consecutive year,” a spokeswoman said.
“High quality leadership and management is integral to this goal and appropriate remuneration is necessary to attract and retain the right people to do the best job for our girls.”
While Brisbane Grammar School headmaster Anthony Micallef's total pay package was at $523,000 in 2019 up from $513,000 the year prior, while students’ OP results placed them “among the best in Australia”.
“The Headmaster’s salary is benchmarked against schools of similar size, complexity and performance,” Mr Micallef said.
“The school’s 2019 OP and NAPLAN results were again outstanding and reflect the exceptional contribution of our teachers, the determined application of our students and the generous support of the parent body.”
The total pay package for Ipswich Grammar School Richard Morrison was $539,000 up from $509,000 the year prior.
Based on NAPLAN data, the report showed the school was ranked 13th in the state and had 19 per cent of students achieve an OP 1 to 5.
“Our 2019 academic results have been very positive with significant gains achieved by our boys through the Explicit Teaching program which has supported another year of strong performance in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 NAPLAN testing,” Mr Morrison said in the report.
Toowoomba Grammar School headmaster Peter Hauser received $557,000 up from the previous headmaster remuneration of $537,000.
Some 30 per cent of students gained an OP between 1 and 5, while 92 per cent of students scored in the range of 1 -15.
Rockhampton Grammar School headmaster Dr Phillip Moulds received a pay total package of $498,400 for 2019.
The report showed the Central Queensland high-performing school had 31.58 per cent of students achieve an OP 1-5.
“While today’s academic data can be measured, the school’s commitment to ensuring Grammar students realise the significance of contributing to the community and exemplifying this via their actions is not so easily quantified,” the report said.
Ipswich Girls Grammar School principal Dr Peter Britton’s total package was $361,722, in 2018 and $385,021 in 2019.
“The Board of Trustees reviews the Principal and CEO’s performance annually based on key performance indicators, targets and the responsibilities listed in the Principal and CEO’s position description,” Dr Britton said.
“91 per cent of the 2019 Seniors were awarded an Overall Position which reflects their aspirations for tertiary study.”
Townsville Grammar school principal Timothy Kelly received $386,000 in 2019.
About 99 per cent of TGS students received NAPLAN results higher than the national benchmark and had 37.7 per cent of students achieve an OP 1 to 5.
And for Rockhampton Girls Grammar School, the principal pay package was split across three key executive members who all acted in the role during 2019, with a total remuneration for all at $226,586.
Acting Principal Ryan Cheers said in the report, it had been a year of accomplishments for the school, with recent school leavers in the top five per cent for student gains based on previous NAPLAN results.
