Two of Brisbane’s most prestigious private colleges have been caught up in a social media storm after a senior male student made a post accusing girls from a nearby private girls’ school of getting abortions.
An Instagram post made this week by a senior student at St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace depicting a soldier defending “innocent unborn babies” from “All Hallows’ Girls” quickly attracted more than 500 comments, largely from students at both schools.
Opinion was divided, with many who appeared to be largely All Hallows’ students quick to condemn the post.
Among the hundreds of comments was one young male asking a female “How many abortions have u had.”
She replied: “Not many (none) but uh, relevance.”
Another commenter wrote “get off Instagram and go to therapy you sad little man”, while another wrote: “Sorry you’re so obsessed with us but next time you feel like spending your day editing a meme, simply don’t.”
One commenter wrote “ur badly reasoned Instagram post stopped so many of us infidel AHS girls! Keep it up solider.”
Another male wrote “no abortions, no opinion”, while a female student wrote “no uterus, no opinion”.
An Instagram story post later made by the student had the caption “the cavalry has arrived” along with the text “there are All Hallows girls with pronouns in bio inside my follow request”, seemingly in reference to a number of students attempting to access his account to leave comments.
Another post made by the same senior Terrace student, whose Instagram biography described him as “trying to be a fool for Christ ... mostly just a regular fool”, appeared to be about the brain development of a fetus.
The Courier-Mail understands the social media content has since been deleted.
A Terrace spokeswoman said the school was aware of the posts, and was working with the students involved and All Hallows’ School.
An All Hallows’ School spokeswoman said: “All Hallows’ School is aware of some inappropriate and offensive posts which appeared on social media.
“These have since been removed after concerns were raised by our senior students and we have worked with St Joseph’s College Gregory Terrace in regard to this matter.”
