Olympic gold medallist Zac Stubblety-Cook has made his Queensland school proud, with his former headmaster describing the 22-year-old as humble, hard working and deserving.
Year eight students at Anglican Church Grammar School, referred to as Churchie, cheered on their former pupil in real time and jumped out of their seats as he landed an Olympic record in the 200m breaststroke.
Churchie Headmaster Dr Alan Campbell said Stubblety-Cook’s Olympic success was a reminder that anything was possible with a dream and hard work.
“On behalf of the Churchie community, I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Zac Stubblety-Cook and his family on his outstanding achievement in achieving an Olympic gold medal and setting a new Olympic record,” he said.
“Zac is a humble, hardworking young man who is most deserving of his success, and we are proud to call him a Churchie Old Boy.”
Dr Campbell said students and young Australians would be inspired by his achievements.
“Zac has reminded us that anything is possible with a dream, lots of hard work and a never-give-in attitude.”
