School resumed today at Indooroopilly State High School after the campus was closed following Brisbane’s latest Covid-19 outbreak.

Many families at the school were forced into 14 days’ home quarantine after a 17-year-old student tested positive to COVID-19 last month, with all students undertaking remote studies.

But today the school’s drop-off zone was buzzing, with excited parents and students visibly ecstatic to be out of quarantine.

“I’m very excited for the kids, they really need to have friends around them and have face-to-face contact,” parent Michiru Takizawa said.

Ms Takizawa’s daughter, Miyuki, who is in Year 7, said she was very excited to be back at school.

Another parent, Peter Clifton, said he was “thrilled” to be dropping off his daughter Tyler this morning.

Tyler Clifton, who is in Year 9, had her violin in hand and was all set for her music lesson today.

“I’m most excited to see my friends,’ she said.

Fellow student Sharnel Allt said quarantine was sometimes frustrating because she had to spend a lot of time on Microsoft teams.

“Sometimes the teachers set more work and you have to go into your own time to do the work,” she said.

Sharnel said she will be asking her teachers questions to understand some of last week’s homework.

Sharnel’s mum, Larsharn Allt, said she was really proud of Sharnel for helping her younger siblings with their work during home quarantine.
