Four female teenagers who allegedly bashed a 13-year-old girl near a major Brisbane shopping centre have been charged with assault and expelled from their respective schools.

The Courier-Mail understands the four students, who attended Cavendish Road, Holland Park and Mansfield state high schools, were expelled following the Monday incident outside Westfield Garden City at Upper Mt Gravatt.

Police have since charged the teens, believed to be from Years 9 to 12, with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and affray.

Video footage, widely circulated, shows the young girl being kicked and punched and kneed in the head as she called out for help.

Officers have also identified several of the bystanders who egged on the alleged violence, The Courier-Mail has learned.

Meanwhile, the mother of the victim is fuming that she has not heard directly from Education Minister Grace Grace.

The woman said she had tried several times to contact Mrs Grace but had been “given the run around”.

“It’s as if she’s a celebrity, like Channing Tatum or someone, and is too busy,” she said.

“I want a public acknowledgment and condemnation from the Minister of that behaviour and at the very, very least a commitment to revisit the bullying policies in our schools.

“I am not going to stop until schools are properly resourced to support both victims and perpetrators of bullying.”

To date, Mrs Grace’s only public comment on the incident was to say she had not seen the video.

On Wednesday, a relative of the 13-year-old girl and members of the public took aim at Mrs Grace on her official Facebook page.

Under a photo the minister posted of herself in a hard-hat at the site of Stretton State College’s new learning centre, people questioned Mrs Grace’s priorities and her response to school bullying.
