Just 10 per cent of all Queensland’s childcare centres have received an excellent rating, according to an independent market research report.
The audit results was released to The Courier-Mail from app KindiCare which compares and finds childcare centres across the country.
The data is based on government service quality audits, community feedback through KindiCare and Google reviews and an evaluation of individual centres to provide each facility with a rating and a score out of 10.
Of the report, just 351 centres of more than 3000 across the state topped the list with an ‘excellent’ rating.
Meanwhile, there were 1,100 centres that were rated ‘very good’, 1,178 that were rated ‘good’ and 309 rated ‘fair’.
The top performing centres were both located in Brisbane with Ashgrove Memorial Kindergarten Inc. and Goodstart Early Learning North Lakes both receiving a 9.89 rating out of 10.
Centres in South East Queensland dominated the top 50 with centres in Chelmer, Geebung, Aspley, Mooloolaba and Everton Park all receiving the next highest rating at 9.79.
Childcare centres across the state have seen an improvement in rankings since the last report from KindiCare which was released in January.
There’s since been 22 additional centres with ‘excellent’ ratings in May, while the number of ‘fair’ ratings have dropped by the same number since the start of the year.
The improvements are promising for KindiCare founder and CEO Benjamin Balk who said veteran childcare centres in particular have benefited from the rankings.
“Some of the providers we speak with have been in the industry for more than 30 years and might not understand the importance of reviews. So it’s something that’s opened their eyes a bit,” he said.
KindiCare’s ranking uses an algorithm that implements national data and sifts through the more than 155,000 parent reviews on the site with instant updates to the data each time a new review is added.
“We’re trying to make it as easy as possible for parents to compare facilities and narrow down their short list using the rating,” Mr Balk said.
