Croatian firefighter gets carried by 'magic carpet' in tornado

IT looks like something out of a movie. Huge gusts of winds caused by a tornado created an extraordinary scene in a Croatian street.

A BRAVE Croatian firefighter has been hailed as a hero, after he was swept away in a storm that hit the western city of Rijeka.

Mario Tomasic was trying to pick up a metal roof the storm had taken off a building, when strong winds lifted him off the ground and he flew a few metres in the air.

The video is a hit on YouTube, as it looks like the man is travelling on a magic carpet.

But Mr Tomasic said he wasn't afraid.

"It wasn't as bad as it looked on the video", he told The Croatian Times.

One person has died and dozens were injured in a storm that hit Croatia on Monday. At some points wind was faster that 200 kilometres per hour.
