Retailers have rushed to deep-clean stores and staff will undergo testing after it was revealed a man infected with coronavirus visited one of southeast Queensland’s largest shopping centres.
Queensand Health last night released a list of locations visited by a 27-year-old man who tested positive for Covid-19.
The 27-year-old man visited Westfield Garden City in Mount Gravatt on Sunday, July 26, where he shopped at JB Hi-Fi, Kmart, Mos Burger and Chatime.
Chatime did not reopen their doors this morning, while JB-Hi, Kmart and Mos Burger rushed to undertake deep cleans overnight to open at 9am.
Staff that worked on Mos Burger on July 26 will be tested for Covid-19 today, and some staff at JB-Hi have reportedly self-elected to be tested as a precaution.
Mos Burger staff were today wearing masks and temperature checking customers wishing to dine-in.
Store managers and customers told The Sunday-Mail the centre was “very quiet” compared to recent weekends.
Heritage Park local Donna Peters and her sons Riley and Darcy said they felt safe visiting the centre but decided to wear masks while shopping this morning as a “precaution”.
“Thank God I wasn’t here that day (Sunday); because I was here Friday and they (her boys) were here Saturday,” Ms Peters said.
“It is very quiet today.”
Annica Carverry from South Brisbane said she felt comfortable visiting the centre today but was being cautious about her movements.
“My first thought when I heard about it was not to touch anything,” she said.
One retail manager told The Sunday-Mail the centre was “like a ghost town” at lunchtime Saturday.
“It has definitely had an effect,” he said
“This should be a normal Saturday but it is definitely very less busy.
“It’s like a ghost town, I would say an 80-75 per cent reduction in people.”
