Queensland has recorded three new cases of COVID-19, after two crew aboard a cargo ship off the coast tested positive, after it was earlier thought just one crew member had tested positive.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Friday morning confirmed one crew member and a person in hotel quarantine had contracted the virus. But in a statement released this afternoon, Queensland Health announced there had been a third diagnosis.

The man is a crew member onboard the same ship as the other positive case.

Both are expected to be transferred to Townsville University Hospital for treatment and quarantine.

All remaining crew have been tested and returned negative results.

“ None of the cases are currently considered to be a risk to the community,” Queensland Health said in a statement.

“It is vital that anyone in Queensland, especially if you’ve been interstate in the last 14 days, gets a COVID-19 test if you develop symptoms, even if mild.”

It comes as two of the three women who allegedly lied on their border passes when coming into Queensland from Melbourne have been released from Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Diana Lasu, 21, Olivia Winnie Muranga, 19, and a sister of one of the girls who contracted COVID-19 were released last night, a Metro South Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman confirmed.

Haja Timbo, 21, who did not get coronavirus, was released from hotel quarantine earlier this week.

“The three women who were admitted to Princess Alexandra Hospital after testing positive to COVID-19 have been assessed and determined to no longer be infectious,” the spokeswoman said.

“Subsequently all three of the women have been discharged from the Princess Alexandra Hospital.”

Ms Lasu and Ms Muranga were diagnosed with COVID-19 and spent eight days in the community before being taken into quarantine.

The trio were charged with fraud and providing false and misleading documents and will face court on September 28.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk earlier stated that Queensland had recorded two new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, before the third case was discovered.

One of the initial cases was a returned traveller from Sydney while the other was on the cargo ship. It is understood the ship is located somewhere off Townsville.

It comes just three weeks after another person located on a cargo ship also contracted the virus.

It is unknown if the pair are from the same vessel.

The total number of active coronavirus cases in Queensland now stands at eight - down from nine yesterday - with more than 716,420 tests conducted.

Since the outbreak started, the state has recorded 1089 cases with six deaths. Currently there are four people in hospital, but none of those are in intensive care.
