Steven Miles flags ‘further announcements’ on possible vaccine mandates for business

Confusion continues about whether Queensland businesses will have to enforce vaccine rules after Deputy Premier Steven Miles today hinted at ‘further announcements’ on the issue.

Businesses should expect “further announcements” about whether or not they’ll be required to implement vaccine mandates at their venues, according to the deputy premier.

Queensland businesses have been wondering for weeks if they’ll need to turn away unvaccinated customers in exchange for no restrictions in their venues.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said today that there would “no doubt” be further announcements regarding whether or not it would be a requirement or a choice.

“Understandably that’s quite an onerous requirement to put on those businesses, and so we have been consulting with them about the best way that we can put those kinds of restrictions in place,” Mr Miles said.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has been saying for the past week that it would be entirely up to businesses whether or not they chose to go down that path.

Confusion over the issue came days ago when Mr Miles announced there would be a “second road map” for businesses detailing on customer vaccination restrictions.

However, later it was revealed that there was in fact no second road map with Mr Miles saying the vaccine mandate would be “optional”.

The murky details have left many businesses confused and frustrated, with National Retail Association CEO Dominique Lamb previously saying it was a “tall ask” to suggest businesses turn away customers without a public health order in place.
