Queensland recorded 2266 new Covid-19 cases during a 12-hour period on New Year’s Eve as new testing requirements for interstate travellers come into effect.
Deputy Premier Steven Miles said there are now 16,125 active cases in Queensland.
Every region has now recorded at least one case since the beginning of the pandemic, with only two not currently dealing with active cases.
The Gold Coast has the highest number of active cases in Queensland with a total of 714, according to data from Queensland Health as of 4pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, Children’s Health Queensland jumped substantially from yesterday’s figures to 357 active cases and Wide Bay to 231.
Elsewhere, Darling Downs (197), Metro North (195), Sunshine Coast (187) and West Moreton (192) have all recorded just under 200 cases.
Only the North West region, as outlined by Queensland Health, do not have active cases.
Active quarantine notices have been issued to 5,556 people in Queensland meanwhile 86.4 per cent of the state is now fully vaccinated.
The chief health officer John Gerard said Queensland would reach 90 per cent fully vaccinated within a “very short time” which would trigger a number of measures – including the 14 day quarantine period for international travellers – to be changed.
