Queensland border reopening 'going to be a disaster' with traffic chaos

RACQ has urged motorists attempting to cross into Queensland on Monday to consider travelling outside of peak times to avoid extensive gridlock at the border.

RACQ spokeswoman Lauren Ritchie warned traffic delays could last “several hours”.

“Come 1am Monday we know there will be a huge number of people wanting to enter Queensland by road and that’s going to cause significant pressure on Gold Coast roads,” Ms Ritchie said.

“Police will be conducting compliance activities at border checkpoints and motorists can expect to be intercepted for verification of their required declaration pass and supporting evidence of vaccinations.

“We predict the longest delays will be during peak hour on Monday, between 7-9am.”

Ms Ritchie said travellers should consult RACQ’s Road Conditions website prior to departure to ensure they were aware of the extent of delays.

“For so many this has been a long time coming and we understand motorists’ eagerness to come into Queensland, but we urge everyone to pack their patience and follow the directions of authorities.”
