Queenslanders aged 60 and older will be able to get the Pfizer jab from state-run jab hubs from this weekend. It comes as no new community-acquired cases of Covid were recorded overnight.

Government launches national vaccine ad campaign

Queenslanders aged 60 and older will be able to get the Pfizer jab from 80 state-run jab hubs from this weekend, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced.

It comes as the state government announced a “Super Pfizer Weekend”, with people aged 12 and up able to walk-in to a vaccination hub to get their jab.

Those aged 60 and over have only been allowed to access AstraZeneca up until now.

“They said to me loud and clear they want to have a choice,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“Well I say let’s give it to them.

“We’re able to now do this because the supply is coming in.”

More than 189,400 Pfizer doses arrived on Monday.

“Let’s use the lot,” the Premier said.

Meanwhile, no new community-acquired Covid cases were recorded in the Sunshine State overnight, with 15,812 tests undertaken in the past 24 hours.

A new vaccine record was also recorded - with 24,947 administered on Tuesday.

This means 57.12 per cent of eligible Queenslanders have had one dose with 38 per cent now fully vaccinated

The Premier said every one of the community vaccination hubs across Queensland would be open this weekend in a bid to boost the vaccination rate.

“We need to get as many Queenslanders as possible vaccinated,” she said.

Ms Palaszczuk praised everyone for wearing masks and using the check-in app as she warned the threat was still real.
