Vaccine rollout ‘urgent’ to protect Australians from Covid variants

Queensland’s state-run Covid-19 vaccine clinics have hit a new daily jab record according to the latest government data.

The latest daily vaccination data, released on Thursday afternoon, revealed Queensland’s state-run clinics had administered more than 9000 jabs in a 24-hour period — three times the rate the rollout was achieving just a fortnight ago.

The government has also opened more Pfizer hubs this week, including in the Aboriginal community of Doomadgee (52 jabs as at June 3) in the Far North and a hub in Agnes Waters (528 jabs as at June 3).

It comes as Health Minister Yvette D’Ath announced 18 hubs would open up across the state on the weekend, with hopes 15,000 Covid-19 jabs will be administered.

The focus of the hubs this weekend would be for frontline workers, aged care staff and 40-49 Ms D’Ath called on all aged care workers to register for the vaccine in a bid to get them all vaccinated within three weeks.

Earlier this week federal health officials, during a fiery sitting of Senate estimates, revealed just 6789 aged care workers in Queensland have been fully vaccinated — 110 days into the Australia’s Covid-19 jab rollout.

Nationally, just 32,822 aged care workers have been fully vaccinated through the Commonwealth’s rollout.

Workers in the sector were meant to be at the front of the coronavirus vaccine queue and were due to all be jabbed by the end of March under the government’s original timelines.
