Queensland has recorded 13,551 new Covid cases and nine deaths, with cases across the state’s southeast expected to peak within the next seven days.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk reiterated her call for vulnerable people to limit their movements.
There are 89.2 per cent of people who are double vaccinated and 52 per cent of eligible people have had their booster.
Ms Palaszczuk said the Gold Coast appeared to be on a path out of the pandemic.
“We do believe the peak on the Gold Coast is now coming down,” she said.
“We’ll see that peak in the rest of southeast Queensland happening shortly … in the next seven days.”
Chief health officer John Gerrard said two people in their 50s, two in their 70s, three in their 80s and two in their 90s had died with Covid-19.
He said the hospitalisation rate was 889, down from 928 in the preceding 24 hours.
“We expect that drop to continue,” he said.
The peak in metropolitan Brisbane is expected to come in the next seven days.
He said of the nine deaths two were unvaccinated, one had one dose and the rest were double vaccinated. None had a booster.
There are 15 people on a ventilator and 47 in intensive care units.
More than 1.25 million Queenslanders have now received a booster.
Dr Gerrard said there was “capacity in the system” for people to get their third jab.
Ms Palaszczuk said she had raised the issue of PPE and boosters with national cabinet.
It comes after 9546 new cases and 11 deaths were recorded on Tuesday.
