Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk provides update on coronavirus

Queensland has recorded zero new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, with the number of active cases in the state falling below 100. But the Premier has warned the next two weeks are critical.

QUEENSLAND has recorded zero new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours with Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk saying ‘the next two weeks are critical’.

It comes as the number of tests conducted climbs beyond 100,000.

Health Minister Steven Miles said there were only 93 active cases in Queensland and only 13 new cases in the past week.

The state’s total sits at 1033.

Fourteen people remain in hospital, six in intensive care.

Ms Palaszczuk said Queensland had well and truly flattened the curve and if cases continued to be very low, there was ‘more of a proposition’ to reopen schools further.

“The next two weeks are critical,” she said.

“Everything is on the table.”

She said 189 countries do not have schools fully open and her decision to allow only the children of ‘essential workers’ to attend school was because she was ‘just doing her best for Queensland’.

She also urged people to download the Federal Government’s COVID-safe app.

“Can I please urge all families to sign up for the COVID-safe app, the more people who sign up the more of Queensland we can open up,” she said.

Ms Palaszczuk yesterday announced there had been another three cases, with a total of 1033 cases in total.

Mr Miles said they had all been acquired off a cruise ship.

On Monday, there were three new cases announced at the daily update, taking the state’s total to 1033 positive cases, with more than 900 people recovered.

It comes as Education Minister Grace Grace revealed more details about how Queensland students will return to school.

And as it’s been revealed the Queensland Budget will take a $4 billion hit from the COVID-19 crisis.
