Pregnant women in Queensland urged to get Covid vaccine

Queensland’s chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young has issued vital new Covid advice for pregnant women, saying they are now an “absolute priority group”.

Push to offer Pfizer jab to pregnant women

Pregnant women have been urged to come forward and get vaccinated to protect themselves and their babies from the dangers of falling sick with Covid while carrying.

Queensland Health Minister Dr Jeannette Young made the specific plea today in recognition of vaccine hesitancy among pregnant women and women of child-bearing age.

She said while the initial advice had been for pregnant women not to get the jab, trials had now been complete and a large number of pregnant women had now been safely vaccinated with no issues.

“That advice has totally changed, totally flipped on its head,” Dr Young said.

“Now they are an absolute priority group.

“So any woman who is pregnant, please, please, please come forward and get vaccinated because we know if you get infected, you will do much worse than someone of your own age who isn’t pregnant.

“So if you’re planning pregnancy, if you’re breastfeeding, if you’re pregnant, doesn’t matter, please get vaccinated because it will not only protect you because you’re immunocompromised, it will protect your baby.”
