The owner of the club, Shane, issued a long statement on social media explaining why the club wasn’t able to continue.

“As some of you may have already heard, our beautiful little club won’t be reopening.

The repeated snap lockdowns have made it impossible to continue. If I’d been able to see a way through this situation, we would keep going. But things are getting worse instead of better.

“I’m sorry we didn’t get to have a proper farewell. Covid even managed to f*ck that up. Last Saturday’s lockdown just reinforced the decision to close.”

The statement detailed the many financial hardships the club had to face including hiked rent and full price liquor licensing despite only being able to trade at 50 per cent.

“If you’re angry about this situation, as so many of us are, please direct it at the State and Federal Governments because they managed to squander the incredible advantage we had over the rest of the world last year through sheer incompetence, negligence, complacency and political buck-passing. We are all paying the price for that now,” the statement read.

Fans and regulars of the club were also devastated to hear the news.

“This makes me so angry for the lack of help or support you’ve received from the government despite their constant lockdowns,”one person wrote.

“I worry for all venues/bars/restaurants in that they are all suffering and struggling to keep heads above water. It’s truly heartbreaking.”
