Little Memphis Francis and his mother have reunited in a touching embrace on the tarmac at Archerfield Airport in Brisbane’s south.

Following pressure on the State Government after a story in Thursday’s Courier-Mail, the three-year-old and his mother Dominique Facer were reunited after he was stranded in New South Wales after going to visit his grandparents at Griffith on July 9.

Memphis, 3, hugged and kissed his mother through tears.

Memphis jumped with excitement and had a smile from ear to ear while his mother had tears of joy.

Just prior to his arrival Ms Facer said she could not wait to see her cheeky boy again and give him a big squeeze.

“He has been watching dinosaurs since and said ‘oh I am going home today’,” Ms Facer said.

“We are going to be a family again.”

Ms Facer had Memphis’ favourite snack, chicken nuggets and chips waiting for him as he got back.

“We are going to be a family again,” she said.

“He is very excited to be coming home; Mum and Dad will miss him but they will be relieved he is finally home with us.”

The family will now isolate for 14 days on their 16ha property at Howard on the Fraser Coast.

“He is going to be on his four-wheeler which had a punctured tyre before he left, so he’ll be happy to know it’s fixed and a brand new playlet we built for him,” Ms Facer said.

“It will be great, 14 days of just the four of us and our daughter will be really excited to have his big mate at home, it’s been lonely for her the past two months.

Ms Facer earlier said she was thrilled she’d be reunited with her little boy after charity Angel flight stepped in.

The story generated national headlines and outrage from politicians and members of the community after the family revealed they had made numerous attempts to gain an exemption for his return into Queensland. All were denied.

“I can’t wait to see him, I don’t think there’s going to be many words – lots of crying and cuddles though, I won’t want to let him go,” Ms Facer said.

“I know for a fact the first thing he’s going to say is: ‘Hi mummy.”

Ms Facer said she had “not a wink of sleep,” thinking about being reunited with her “best little mate,” and said little Memphis had been awake playing with dinosaurs at grandma and grandpa’s since 3am.

Asked what Memphis and his family will do for their 14 days of home isolation, Ms Facer said she expects her kids to play on their newly built swing set together and enjoy the delights of the spring weather.

“I know for a fact I won’t be able to get him off his little four wheeler, and I know he’s going to want to go spend some time with the horse,” Ms Facer said.

“He’s going to spend his first 14 days of Spring being pushed on the swing set by his dad and having fun with his sister Paisley. I can’t wait.

“We don’t mind at all being in home isolation, there’s lots to do and the kids will love being outside together, it absolutely is just excellent we can be together again.”

Ms Facer said Angel Flight, who will privately transport the family home to Hervey Bay, have been “absolutely incredible”

“We are so grateful to them,” she said.

“I wish I was jumping on the plane to see him right now.”

This will be the third compassionate flight Angel Flight has embarked on since the start of the Covid pandemic.

“Angel Flight is happy to help Memphis with air transport from his grandparents’ home in Griffith, home to his family in Queensland,” said Angel Flight CEO Marjorie Pagani.

“We got involved in helping Memphis after a number of Queensland community members called to ask if we could assist. Whilst this type of flight is a little different from our usual missions, we are glad we are able to provide this opportunity for Memphis, and his family.

“Due to our fantastic volunteers, we have the capacity to assist with these types of compassionate missions which provides an important free service to the Australian community.”

In June, Angel Flight was able to reunite returned traveller Anna Coffey with her dying father in Melbourne after she was denied a border pass, while four weeks ago the service assisted returned traveller Daniel Cioffi with a flight from Brisbane to Adelaide to see his dying mother.
