Operators of a Coast holiday resort caught up in the state’s latest Covid crisis has slammed a ‘terrible’ lack of communication from Queensland Health.
The Iconic Kirra Beach Resort has been thrown into turmoil heading into the long weekend after it was named by Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young as a new hotspot.
A new Covid-positive person linked to the Brisbane aviation cluster stayed with their family at the beachfront resort for four days last week and visited venues including the Kirra and Kirra surf clubs, local cafes, and a Woolworths supermarket and Timezone fun parlour at Coolangatta.
A resort receptionist said the resort was heavily booked for the long weekend and phones were running hot with calls from concerned guests.
“We don’t know what to tell them because we’re still waiting for Queensland Health to give us some direction,” she said.
“We don’t know what to say. It’s pretty terrible that we’re not getting any support.”
The receptionist said the room the infected person and their family had stayed in had been deep cleaned and the resort was ‘carrying on as normal’ until told otherwise.
The drama comes after more than 50 lifesavers at Southport Surf Club were forced into quarantine after a 14-year-old girl tested positive during a school holiday bronze medallion course.
The case is also linked to the Brisbane aviation cluster.
