How Queenslanders can book their booster shots

Eligible Queenslanders are being encouraged to get their Covid booster shots to increase their protection as the state heads towards the peak of the Omicron wave. Here’s exactly how you can organise your vaccine appointment today.

Currently 4.86 million Australians have received a booster shot

Queenslanders looking to book either their Covid booster jab or their first and second vaccine dose are being encouraged to use any of the state’s walk-in-clinics or its online booking system.

Anyone over the age of 18 who received their second vaccine dose at least four months ago is now eligible to receive a booster shot.

The majority of vaccination clinics are now accepting walk-ins for all Queenslanders aged five and above however, those who would prefer to skip the queues and secure an appointment can register their interest online via the Queensland Health website and receive an email invitation that allows them to select a booking of their choice.

People making vaccination bookings on behalf of children aged between five and eleven are advised to contact their chosen clinic or pre-book online, as not all clinics have the ability to vaccinate this age category.

The invitation email will direct Queenslanders to create a user account with Queensland Health, which will then be used to manage all future vaccination appointments.

Once an account has been made, Queenslanders will then be asked to fill out a brief survey discussing their pre-vaccination conditions including if they have a history of blood clots, allergies to any previous vaccines or if they have recently tested positive to Covid.

Queensland Health will send an email to those who register their vaccine interest, inviting them to click on a link and create a Queensland health user account in order to make a booking at a clinic near them.

The last tick box on the survey confirms the user’s consent to receive a vaccine, before allowing them to select and book their preferred location and time to get the jab.
Queenslanders will then receive another email confirmation with their booking details and a special QR code to use for registration upon arrival to their vaccine or booster appointment.

Other ways to book a booster or vaccine appointment

In addition to state-run clinics, local pharmacies and GP’s are also delivering vaccines and booster shots as part of the collaborative state and federal rollout.

All participating Covid vaccine clinics in Australia can be searched online by postcode or town, and those who want to pre-book a specific type of vaccine (AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna and child vaccines), can use the federal website to do so.

Once a vaccine and location is selected, the website will reveal a list of available appointments along the left-hand side.

App lovers also have the ability to book a jab through the HotDoc App and website, which allows the user to search for individual GP’s offering Covid vaccines and booster shots.
Each GP has a personalised profile on the App, detailing their availability and contact information.
Similar to the state and federal health websites, search tools can be used to narrow down location preferences, allowing the user to book an appointment at a time and place of convenience.

Queensland Health is urging eligible Queenslanders to book their booster shot as soon as possible.

“It’s really important to have the booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to ensure you have maximum immunity,” said a Queensland Health spokesperson.

“As all our vaccination locations offer walk-ins and we are offering more across the state, Queenslanders are increasingly accessing vaccinations without an appointment and simply showing up their vaccination at the most convenient location and time.

“When people get their first dose at one of our vaccination locations, they are sent an email with an allocated appointment or directed to make an appointment via our booking system.

“If they have not booked an appointment after a week, they are sent a reminder to book.”

Queensland is currently 88.7 per cent fully vaccinated and 91.6 per cent of eligible residents have received their first dose.
