US musician JORDY draws inspiration from Aussie star Sivan

He is one of the fastest rising pop stars in the US and his music has been put in the same company as mega stars such as Billie Eilish. And he is drawing comparisons to one Aussie.

“Lauv and Troye have certainly been huge inspirations, for sure,” JORDY tells Hibernation on the phone from his Los Angeles apartment. “I would love to meet them. It means the world to me to be compared to them, they are fantastic.’”

Sivan of course is a 24-year-old Australian singer songwriter, who is one of our biggest music exports of the past few years.

“I think there’s just this authenticity that a lot of people resonate with,” JORDY continued. “I think the writing is super great. I think Bloom (Sivan’s single) was a really important song to be released. And I think that there’s something just really cool about seeing someone so young, so confident with who they are and making music that feels honest to them and I think that that’s one of the reasons why I resonate with him so much. And also just, you know, the music that inspires me.”

Comparisons aside, JORDY has very quickly put himself on the music map after finishing English studies at university in Boston when, two years ago, he moved to Los Angeles to “become a pop star”.

In February, TIME magazine in the US listed his track, Is It Love, as one of five songs to be across alongside work from artists Billie Eilish, Monsta X, Marian Hill and Grimes.

It was a huge moment in the 25-year-old’s burgeoning career.

“I think it was just like very validating for me and just kind of a reminder that what I make isn’t terrible, which is always great,” he explained. “It was a huge honour and it just made me feel really proud. I only started putting out music two years ago at the end of this month and to be alongside such dope artists that I look up to is very, very cool.”

JORDY, 25, who is an independent artist, is like most of us in home isolation at the moment as nearly two million people have tested positive to COVID-19 globally. His answer to the difficult times is to be as prolific as possible and release as much music as he can with new single, Things I Never Said, out on Friday.

JORDY promises to visit Australia once the COVID-19 pandemic has passed.

“At the end of the day people need stuff right now to listen to and to be excited about,” he said. “I obviously can’t be playing shows right now so I want to give people anything I can, which is songs and videos and all of that sort of thing.”

After coronavirus, JORDY promises to visit Australia. “I cannot wait to play shows again,” he said. “I have never been to Australia but it would be a dream to play there. I’m hoping I get to come once the travel ban is lifted.”
