Brisbane’s busiest streets have been left mostly bare as the first full day of the region’s lockdown begins.
Queen Street Mall, which is usually full of bustling shoppers on a Saturday, has turned into a ghost town as only essential shopping is permitted.
Police on bicycles have been seen riding through the mall ensuring everyone is wearing masks and following the rules.
Shopfronts show signs which remind Queenslanders that masks are mandatory, with some stores closed until Tuesday when the lockdown is expected to lift.
Chemists, convenience stores and fast food shops are among the only stores open in the mall.
Some clothing and entertainment stores, like H&M, City Beach and EB Games have opened, but the stores are deserted.
Those out for a morning walk were donning face masks.
Roads around the city have also been left empty from the lockdown, with few cars on the road and traffic flowing freely through the region.
