The State Government has slammed the border shut to NSW at the same time as announcing an easing of restrictions for southeast Queenslanders in place since the snap lockdown earlier this month.
Queensland will close to all of NSW from 1am on Friday, with a valid border pass required for anyone wanting to enter the state including those who lived in declared bubble zones.
Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said the closure was required because the situation was starting to escalate in NSW, with 124 new cases of Covid recorded on Thursday.
“The numbers we are seeing interstate is very concerning but we can do what we are announcing today because of the great work of Queenslanders,” Ms D’Ath said.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the restrictions would ease for southeast Queensland from 6am on Friday, but masks would be required for another week.
Here is a list of what you can and can’t do from Friday, July 23.
FROM 1AM:
■ The border will close to all of NSW, except to the declared border zone areas, with anyone crossing at one of the checkpoints required to have the right border pass
■ A border zone will remain in place allowing people in those communities to move around for essential reasons, not including Coffs Harbour
■ Queenslanders currently in NSW will need to get home before 1am on Friday if they want to avoid mandatory hotel quarantine
FROM 6AM:
■ Masks will continue to be required for those in the southeast for another seven days
■ People will be allowed to visit loved ones in hospitals and aged care
■ Home gatherings can increase from 30 to 100 people
■ No limit for people gathering outdoors
■ 200 people will also be allowed at funerals and weddings, up from 100
■ Hospitality businesses will revert back to one person per 2sq/m
■ You can dance but you have to wear a mask
■ Stadiums with more than 20,000 seats will be capped at 75 per cent capacity
■ People attending sporting matches will now have to wear masks while sitting down but not while eating
