Brisbane doctor who tested positive for COVID was treating two infected patients

A doctor working at Princess Alexandra Hospital on Brisbane’s southside is now in isolation after contracting COVID-19.

This is the latest health advice you need to know.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The doctor acquired the potentially deadly virus after coming into contact with two COVID patients at the Princess Alexandra Hospital on Wednesday, March 10. She started experiencing symptoms on Thursday evening and then got tested on Friday morning, with the positive result coming back on Friday evening.

IS THERE A RISK OF COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION?

Yes. The doctor visited a number of venues while she was unknowingly infectious.

HIGH-RISK VENUES: If you visited any of the following venues during the times specified you should get tested immediately and isolate.

Morning After Cafe at West End between 2-3.15pm on Thursday, March 11

Corporate Box Gym at Greenslopes between 5.45-7pm on Thursday, March 11

Stones Corner Hotel between 6.30-7.45pm on Thursday, March 11

LOW-RISK VENUES: If you visited the following venues during the times specified you should monitor for symptoms and if they present get tested immediately and isolate.

McDonald’s at Coorparoo (drive-through) from 3.10-3.20am on Thursday, March 11

Corporate Box Gym at Greenslopes after 7pm on Thursday, March 11

ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS IN BRISBANE AS A RESULT OF THE NEW CASE?
Yes. Visitors are now restricted at hospitals, aged care, youth detention facilities, prisons and disability centres in the greater Brisbane area.

Impacted southeast Queensland prisons include those south of Woodford Correctional Centre and west of Southern Queensland Correctional Centre, including all Wacol-based centres, Numinbah and Palen Creek Correctional centres.

Queensland Corrective Services said the decision was made on advice from Queensland Health. All correctional centres and community corrections offices will implement Stage 3 restrictions immediately for at least 72 hours.

Essential workers entering a prison in SEQ will undergo health screening including thermal imaging, and must wear a mask.
