Queensland has recorded one new case of COVID-19 overnight, which was acquired overseas and detected in hotel quarantine.
It is not related to the superyacht that’s docked off Cairns, which has two cases linked to it.
Today’s case is on the Gold Coast.
There are now 11 active cases in Queensland.
Meanwhile, Christmas has ended in disappointment for dozens of suspected Sydneysiders turned away by police at the Queensland border.
Gold Coast police Chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler said 218 vehicles containing 482 people had been refused entry in the 24 hours to 4pm yesterday.
This was 28 more vehicles and 62 people up on the previous 24-hour period.
Those turned away were believed to have come from the Greater Sydney area, which was declared a COVID-19 hotspot this week by the Queensland Government after the virus outbreak on the northern beaches.
In contrast to earlier in the week, when motorists endured two-hour delays after the border was slammed shut, Supt Wheeler said traffic was so far flowing well.
He said almost 440,000 border passes had been issued.
