Brisbane Heat cricket star Mujeeb Ur Rahman is recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with coronavirus.
The Afghanistan megastar, in his third season with the Heat, travelled from his home of Kabul last week but reported symptoms during his mandatory quarantine period at a Gold Coast hotel this week.
He will remain in the care of the Queensland Health Department until he is cleared to link with the Heat for BBL10.
He was due to miss the Heat’s first game next Friday night due to quarantine, but he is now in doubt for the side’s following two matches as well.
Cricket Australia and Queensland Cricket medical staff have been in close consultation with Mujeeb as his symptoms developed.
Queensland Cricket CEO Terry Svenson said the welfare of Mujeeb was of the highest concern for the Brisbane Heat.
“We will work with the relevant authorities to ensure the integrity of the competition and wellbeing of the player are suitably addressed,’’ he said.

“He is a young man far from home and we will ensure he is looked after.”
With international players flying in from around the globe, Cricket Australia’s head of Big Bash Leagues Alistair Dobson said the health and safety of players, staff and the wider community was a top priority this season.
“Both Mujeeb and the Brisbane Heat have our full support and we will ensure all Queensland Government protocols continue to be followed as he recovers,” he said.
