Police descended on a home in Sydney’s southwest on Thursday night after a woman with Covid was found dead inside.
Gladys Berejiklian confirmed the “tragic” news on Friday.
The Cabramatta woman, who was not vaccinated, was one of two deaths as a result of the virus reported on Friday as the state’s outbreak soared by 390 new local infections.
The Premier said the other death was a man in his 90s from the New England area in the Hunter Region who was vaccinated.
Ms Berejiklian passed on “heartfelt sympathies and condolences”.
Officers were called to the home in Junction Street, Cabramatta, about 6.30pm after someone raised a welfare concern.
Detectives found the woman’s body inside.
“An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death,” NSW Police said in a statement.
Forensic investigators were also photographed holding yellow plastic bags with biological hazard warnings printed on them.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
