Peta Credlin has claimed that Labor is winning a crucial battle against the Coalition – with the federal election just around the corner.

Tony Abbott’s former chief of staff and Sky News presenter Peta Credlin has claimed Labor is winning a crucial battle against the Coalition – with the federal election just around the corner.

Ahead of the debut of her new documentary The Campaign Uncovered, Credlin spoke to Flash News presenter Georgie Tunny about the upcoming federal election.

She said that Labor was the best performing party so far because they had framed the Prime Minister with character issues – which may or may not stick in voters’ minds when they head to the ballots,

Conversely she said the Coalition and Scott Morrison’s biggest issue was that they hadn’t done the same to Anthony Albanese.

“He (Albanese) has been in public life for 26 years,” she said. “The fact that Australians don’t really know who he is and they haven’t got a handle on him is interesting.

“There’s a heavy hesitation factor around Anthony Albanese. Labor’s job between now and polling day will be to remove that hesitation.

“And, the Coalition’s job will not only be to frame him, but to keep that hesitation there particularly given the concern people have about the economy, Covid recovery and in particular national security.”

She said the Prime Minister, coming out of the Covid pandemic, has had an “unusual lead-up” to this election.

“Normally 12 months out you would have seen the politics start to move to campaign mode. That hasn’t happened,” she said.

“We had vaccine rollouts, issues with testing regimes, access to RATs – there’s a whole debate around Covid that’s been different to the political debate.”

She said the government is rapidly trying to make up for lost time – and the strategy appears to be working if you have faith in the polls.

Sky News Australia will broadcast a special one-hour documentary The Campaign Uncovered: A Peta Credlin Investigation on Tuesday, April 5 at 8pm AEST.
