A Japanese man has been arrested after admitting he stole a company president’s wallet containing 50,000 yen ($613) during an interview earlier this month, The Japan Times reports.

Shogo Takeda, 24, committed the faux pax during an interview at an elevator maintenance company in Yokohama. He allegedly took advantage of easy access to the president’s bag when he briefly left the room.

“I wanted to work for that company, but since I haven’t got a job I needed money,” police said Takeda told them upon owning up to the charges.

The president noticed his wallet was missing after the interview and reported the incident to police, suspecting Takeda had taken it as the pair were alone in the office during the interview.

Takeda was tracked down via contact details, including his address and phone number, on his resume. He reportedly did not contact the company for a follow-up.
