Queen Maxima of the Netherlands seemingly mocked Donald Trump’s speech mannerisms while standing beside the US President on live TV.
Mr Trump met with the Dutch royal and her husband, King Willem Alexander, after arriving in the European nation for the NATO summit on Wednesday local time.
“The day begins in the beautiful Netherlands. The King and Queen are beautiful and spectacular people,” the President wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“Our breakfast meeting was great! Now it’s off to the very important Nato meetings. The USA will be very well represented.”
Footage of the trio posing for the cameras afterwards swiftly went viral, however, after social media users pointed out Queen Maxima appeared to mock the way Mr Trump talked to the photographers.
“That’s the picture we want,” Mr Trump said, as King Willem Alexander told him, “Well I hope you slept well!”
As Mr Trump thanked everyone there and said “it was great”, Queen Maxima seemed to mimic his mouth movements – much to the delight of her fellow countrymen online.
“This is hilarious! I’ve never been a fan of our stiff monarchy, but Queen Maxima rocks it,” one X user wrote.
“Treat him like a baby.”
“Queen Maxima mimicking Trump’s mouth movements really got me,” a second person said, alongside a clip of the moment.
Another wrote: “Wait a minute, was Queen Maxima of the Netherlands mimicking Donald Trump?!”
“Maxima does not like Trump’s a** one bit!” someone else posted.
“Our queen making fun of Trump and she imitates him, while she stands beside him,” one said, adding, “Maxima the queen you are!”.
Some rushed to defend the 54-year-old, however, suggesting that “people are reading this wrong” and the moment had been taken out of context.
“Awkward, but I think an accident,” one said.
The US President, who has not commented on the clip, has since returned to Washington after the summit – where he was referred to by NATO secretary-general Mark Rutte, rather uniquely, as “daddy” for his handling of the Middle East crisis.
Mr Trump compared the fighting between Israel and Iran to “two kids in a schoolyard” when Mr Rutte chimed in with his own analogy during their talks ahead of the summit.
“Then daddy has to sometimes use strong language,” he said, referring to the President’s expletive-laced outburst a day prior at the prospect of the Israel-Iran ceasefire breaking down.
Mr Rutte later walked back the eyebrow-raising remark, denying he was directly referring to the US leader as “daddy”.
