It turns out uni isn’t the only pathway to a high-paying job, but to avoid the debts of higher education and land a top paying job without a degree you’ll need these skills instead.

As university application deadlines approach, high school graduates might be surprised by the 10 highest paying jobs you can get without a degree.

It turns out uni isn’t the only pathway to a high-paying job, but to avoid the debts that come with further study and land a top paying job without a degree you’ll need a couple of key skills instead.

The majority of high paying positions which don’t require a degree do have one thing in common – an advanced understanding of technology including social media skills.

Heading the list of the top non-degree earners are gaming streamers, who can earn up to US$250,000 a year and do just what it sounds like – they broadcast themselves playing video games on platforms such as Twitch.

Gaming streamers earn their income through sponsorships, subscriptions, affiliate marketing, advertising and merchandise sales.

One of the most successful and famous game streamers is Swedish YouTuber Felix Kjellberg, who goes by the handle PewDiePie, and is estimated to have amassed a fortune of more than $73 million).

Ranked second are freelance writers, who can earn up to $229,000 a year, the research found.

And in third place are affiliate marketers – who earn a commission for marketing another person’s or company’s products – with annual earnings potential of up to $209,000 a year.

The research, conducted by AI recruiter Velents AI, involved analysing Google data, studying salary ranges from Indeed and ZipRecruiter, and examining job listings on Indeed.

Rounding out the top five are content creators, with earnings potential of up to $189,000 a year and virtual assistants, who can command an income of $181,000 per year.

Virtual assistants were found to be the most in-demand of the top 10 jobs, with the most job openings and over three million searches on Google.

With social media managers and influencers both also featuring in the top ten, if you’re looking for something more hands-on or a more traditional line of work, the highest paying job you can get in Australia without a degree that fits the bill is a construction manager, according to Indeed.

Construction managers can earn an average salary of $171,341, the job search website said.

They were followed by project managers with an average salary of $125,052 a year, underground miners on $120,399 a year, human resources managers earning an average of$118,000 a year and recruitment managers on an average salary of $115,489 a year.

Other non-tech high paying jobs to feature on the lists include event planners, security managers and site supervisors.
