Amie Bolton has been left gutted and confused after being fired from her dream job.
Ms Bolton, 23, is from the UK and was elated after she snagged a social media and content creator role in Australia.
The excitement was short-lived, Ms Bolton was fired from the role within her probation period and after just over a month.
“The reason was that I wasn’t experienced enough and this upset and frustrated me because I was very transparent about my experience,” she told news.com.au.
“I had never worked for a company before and I never had any corporate experience. My portfolio was essentially just the stuff I was putting on my TikTok.”
Ms Bolton said she felt blindsided by being let go during her probation period because she’d been upfront about her lack of experience.
The 23-year-old was especially sad because she thought things were going well, she didn’t know everything, but she had ideas, was hardworking and keen to learn.
“When they fired me. It was out of the blue! I had no feedback or communication prior it was kind of just sprung on me,” she said.
Ms Bolton said it was frustrating because she was told it had nothing to do with her performance and that they just needed someone with more experience.
The 23-year-old claimed that after hiring her, the company realised that they needed a social media co-ordinator rather than just a creator.
She also claimed that she was told that they couldn’t train her to fulfil that role because no one at the company had the knowledge and could prove the support.
Ms Bolton said she was left “frustrated” and “upset” and really disappointed.
“I got my hopes up for nothing,” she said.
She also claimed that during her month working there she received “zero feedback and zero training”.
Even when she was fired, she was left with more questions than answers, which was upsetting.
“One day, I get pulled into the CEO’s office, and they’re like, ‘We’re letting you go with immediate effect” she said.
“Why the hell did they hire me in the first place?”
Ms Bolton said she’s now feeling “stressed” about money because she was unemployed before she snagged the job.
“I haven’t had any kind of constant or reliable income for the past few months really,” she said.
“Money is always a stressful factor! Especially when you’re over here on the other side of the world by yourself.”
Ms Bolton said the only silver lining is that her parents are visiting at the moment, so she’s taking a break from the job hunt until they leave and focusing on that.
“I just want to take the time now to be super present and worry about the job when my parents leave and make sure it is something that is going to be truly fulfilling.”
