PEOPLE are married to their jobs and are more in love with work than their partner, according to a new report released today.

AUSTRALIANS are married to their jobs and are more in love with work than their partners, according to new research.

The passion for romance is not as high on the priority list for most with job security more dear to the heart, (34 per cent) taking the top honours in boosting a person’s confidence.

Being in love (18 per cent) and keeping fit (9 per cent) are next to fit the bill taking out second and third spot for what gives people the biggest confidence boost.

Asteron Life’s Cash versus Love report, released today, found Aussies’ confidence is at its best when they have a secure job.

Spokeswoman Natalie Kitchen said it was “surprising job security toppled being in love.”

“Love is still the second most important thing in terms of confidence so maybe Australians feel they need to be cashed up,’’ she said.

“In this day and age we want to be cashed up to attract our loved ones.”

But social analyst David Chalke said the importance of having a job had not overtaken the power of love.

“Jobs are important but they haven’t taken precedence,’’ he said.

“A job is for life, at least until you are 65 but passion, love and romance is for the first few years of the relationship.

“After that it morphs into something more substantial than buying oversized boxes of chocolates and stuffed toys.”

When it comes to tossing and turning at night people lie awake worrying the most about losing their job (26 per cent).

Next on the list of stresses for Australians when the sun goes down was not being financially secure (10 per cent) followed by getting a life-threatening illness and the stress from being overloaded at work (both 8 per cent each).
