Wedding Planners Whitsundays collapse leaves dozens of creditors in its wake

Thousands of dollars owed is unlikely to be paid after the closure of a popular wedding company left more than 100 creditors out of pocket.

THE collapse of the Whitsundays’ largest wedding planning company has left 108 creditors owed more than $300,000.

Wedding Planners Whitsundays was put into liquidation on October 4 with 39 weddings on the books.

The weddings will be covered thanks to the generosity of local suppliers but a further 65 unsecured creditors, many which are small businesses, are not likely to see their $293,054 again.

In addition, four employees of Wedding Planners Whitsundays are also owed $12,034.

The collapse of the company prompted suppliers and the region’s wider tourism businesses to rally in support of each other.

“Weddings in the Whitsundays are big business,” Fish D’Vine owner Kevin Collins said.

“It’s too big an industry to let fail.”

Liquidator Dennis Offermans previously said his early investigations suggested the company’s overheads were not commensurate with revenue.

Liquidators or administrators were appointed to 113 Queensland businesses in September.
