THE FOUNDER of award-winning firm Tow.com.au has put the company in liquidation following a lengthy legal battle with the State Government.

Tow truck entrepreneur Dominic Holland told his staff on Saturday that their employment with the company was terminated after making the decision to liquidate the company.

Tow.com.au was responsible for towing and storing cars confiscated by police after tough anti-hooning laws introduced in 2013.

Mr Holland has filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit in alleged unpaid bills.

He remained in a bitter stoush with the Queensland Police Service following the battle to collect what he alleged were “huge amounts of outstanding storage” fees.

In its defence, the Queensland Government argued the contract did not entitle Tow.com.au to charge for the storage cost of forfeited cars.

In a written message to employees, Mr Holland said for two-and-a-half years he had been “fighting to protect 12,000 Queenslanders, and around a hundred small businesses from the inconceivable actions of Queensland Police Service”.

He went on to allege the QPS “blatantly refused to pay for $30m in services they ordered and received”.

“Innocent mums, dads, and grandparents should not be footing this bill,” he wrote.

“I believe that every Queenslander deserves a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work, and what has transpired from this Government is nothing less than possibly the nation’s most horrific case of wage theft.

“Today I put the impoundment business, Tow.com.au, into liquidation; as an act to best ensure all the company creditors get paid in full, and the company’s debtors are pursued for the moneys they owe.

“The business’ assets outweighs its liabilities by a factor of more than 10, and the liquidator has powers I do not which can aid significantly in this process.

“As an employee of Tow.com.au, it is with tremendous heartache that I need to let you know that your employment at Tow.com.au is therefore, terminated.”

Mr Holland paid employees their current pay slip and their next expected pay slip, before thanking them for their hard work.

“I cannot wait to continue a personal relationship with you into the future,” he wrote.
